Our Services
The Human Rights & Business Project currently provides a range of services, from review of your company code of conduct, to complete evaluations of your business practices in multiple countries.
Specifically, we provide the following services:
Business training course
The Human Rights and Business Project offers training for business professionals on how to understand human rights in a business context. The courses address the key issues of human rights and provide tools to deal with human rights effectively and immediately in a company setting. The courses are taught using a case-studies approach, and are targeted towards mid-level managers and CSR specialists with limited or no prior experience with human rights issues.
We also offer courses to NGOs on how to detect human rights violations and how to work with companies to correct sub-standard practices.
Human Rights Compliance Assessments and Reviews
Companies often take extensive efforts to ensure compliance with human rights standards but lack the expertise to fully engage the issues. The Human Rights and Business Project offers compliance assessment assistance and compliance reviews for companies that want an independent audit or a review of their own findings.
Code of conduct screening
Companies are increasingly relying on codes of conduct to operationalize ethics and social responsibility, and to communicate company values to customers, suppliers and other business partners. Human rights are an essential feature of any good code, and yet because of their highly specialized nature, they are often given sub-standard coverage. The Human Rights and Business Project offers a screening service designed to review both the content as well as the implementation of your company code. After taking into account your type of operations, country locations, areas of high risk and legal liability, and your wider community engagements, we offer advice on how to improve the comprehensiveness and effectiveness of your company code.
Human Rights Hotline
The Human Rights Hotline offers assistance and advice on human rights issues to companies who do not have an in-house human rights department, or to companies wishing to ensure an impartial third party plays a role in addressing sensitive human rights issues. Employees of a company can call the Project for human rights advice or to report suspected violations anonymously. All potential problem areas and suspected violations are then relayed back to the company (while protecting the source's anonymity) along with suggestions for corrective procedures.
NGO Partnership Service
The Danish Institute for Human Rights has an extensive network of partner NGOs and civil society groups around the world. The NGO partnership service is designed to match companies operating in unfamiliar territories with reputable local human rights professionals for use in stakeholder dialogues, human rights promotional activities, or other engagements with the company. After considering the company’s need and expertise requirements, we will match it with the appropriate human rights organization in its country of operations.
General Consultancy Tasks
The Human Rights and Business Project is also available for general human rights consultancy. Please contact us to discuss your company’s needs and to inquire about rates and availability.
